Puerto Vallarta is a fishing town. It´s history dates back to the time before the Spanish conquered Mexico. It is believed that this bay was formed with the falling of a giant meteorite that when it hit the earth formed a giant crater in the late Mezozoic era, this crater was covered with the Pacific Ocean waters forming a bay more than 100 miles long.

This town was named Las Peñitas until the president of México promoted the creation of the film ¨The night of the Iguana¨ by Richard Burton and Eva Garden with the presence of Elizabeth Taylor. Its paradise was shown to the world. From then on this village has been growing to what is now - a world class resort.
The Aztecs populated the area. Archeologists located the origin of the Aztlan (the land of the Aztecs) to this region by the Pacific.
